The actress and comedienne Maureen Potter has died at her home in Dublin aged 79.
The well-known screen and stage star made her first professional appearance in a pantomime with the legendary Jimmy O’Dea in 1935 and their comic partnership endured for generations of panto fans.
She also toured as a singer with Jack Hylton and his orchestra before the Second World War, performed in cabaret and played many serious and comic roles on both the stage and the screen.
In her later life, Ms Potter was conferred with an honorary law degree from Trinity College, wrote the children’s book Tommy the Theatre Cat and was granted the Freedom of Dublin in 1984.
