Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble has reacted with scepticism to the British Government’s statement earlier today on paramilitary ceasefires.

Mr Trimble said unionists would not accept any judgement on ceasefires that came from Northern Secretary John Reid.

He said Britain should have established an objective body to conduct regular audits of paramilitary activity.

The UUP leader also called on Dr Reid to reiterate his pledge to seek Sinn Fein’s exclusion from the power-sharing Executive if the IRA is found to have breached its ceasefire.
