McVeigh executed by lethal injection
Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh was executed by lethal injection today.
The execution of America’s worst mass murderer, who killed 168 people when he bombed the Alfred P Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City, was confirmed by Government sources.
‘‘It’s over,’’ said the source, who was given official notice of McVeigh’s death minutes after the execution was carried out.
McVeigh died strapped to a table in a green tile-lined chamber, watched by more than 25 people, ten of them relatives of his victims, with another 300 survivors watching his death on closed circuit television in Oklahoma City.
He was injected with a lethal concoction of sodium pentathol, to sedate him, pancuronium which paralyses the breathing muscles and then potassium chloride, which stops the heart.
