ComReg has reduced the rate which eircom can charge other telecom companies per month to access the last mile of its telecoms network.
The amount set is €14.67 per month, down from an interim rate of €16.81 which was set last year, a reduction of nearly 12%.
The last mile is used by other operators to provide high speed internet access or telephony to customers, such companies include Esat BT, Energis and WorldCom.
Esat BT has said that it will pass on the price reduction to customers.
Though a reduction, this fee is still one of the highest charged in Europe by an incumbent operator for the use of networks.
However, eircom had been asking for an increase in thr fee and said that it was required in order to maintain its network, otherwise it will be giving access to its networks at a loss.
There are some indications that eircom may appeal to the High Court.
