My Sweet Lord returns to record stores

A tribute single to the late Beatle George Harrison was being released today in aid of charity.

A tribute single to the late Beatle George Harrison was being released today in aid of charity.

The reissue of his 1971 hit, My Sweet Lord, follows huge public demand since Harrison’s death in November.

The youngest Beatle lost his battle against cancer and died in Los Angeles aged 58, with his wife Olivia and son Dhani by his side.

My Sweet Lord, which topped the charts for five weeks when it was first released, became the first solo post-Beatles number one for any of the group, but it prompted a court battle because of similarities with The Chiffons’ hit He’s So Fine.

Proceeds from sales of the record will go towards the Material World Charitable Foundation, which supports agencies worldwide helping poverty-stricken children.

Harrison set up the foundation in 1973 around the time of his solo album, Living In The Material World.

The re-released single features new artwork with an original photograph taken by Harrison himself.

The track will also include Let It Down and My Sweet Lord 2000, two tracks remixed by Harrison for the album re-issue of All Things Must Pass.
