700,000 passengers travel on Luas during first month
The operators of Dublin's Luas trams, Connex and the Railway Procurement Agency, are now offering free park-and-ride facilities for disabled people.
It follows condemnation from disability groups. Meanwhile, it has been revealed almost three quarters of a million passengers have travelled on Luas in the last month.
That's in addition to the 440,000 carried during the initial free period on the route, between Sandyford and St Stephens Green.
Ger Hannon from the RPA said: “For the year to break even we were talking about something in the region of six or seven million passengers.
"Now with 700,000 in the first month, and particularly given the months of July and August when so many people were on holidays, the schools are out, I think there is every indication that we will reach our target and exceed it.”
