Woman with organ failure survives for 16 days down well

A woman survived 16 days at the bottom of a disused well in China by eating raw corn and drinking rainwater.

Su Qixiu was gathering herbs when she fell into the abandoned 13-foot-deep well in a village in Henan province.

Her family continued to search for her, and she was finally found on Monday.

The 48-year-old said: “I shouted every day in those 16 days. And spoke a lot of nonsense. I was scared and felt hopeless.”

Ms Su is being treated in hospital where doctors said she was at first unable to speak and had organ failure, but her condition has stabilised.

She lost around two stones during her ordeal.
