A small plane carrying parachute jumpers crashed on landing during a severe storm near the Ukrainian capital, killing five and injuring 13 people on board.

A small plane carrying parachute jumpers crashed on landing during a severe storm near the Ukrainian capital, killing five and injuring 13 people on board.

The accident took place at the Borodyanka airport some 30km (20 miles) west of Kiev today when the small plane tried to land during a heavy rainstorm with high winds, the Ukrainian Emergency Situations Ministry said.

The plane belonged to a pilot school and was carrying 16 parachute jumpers and two crew members. An investigation has been opened.
