Sheen's family keen to help troubled star

Charlie Sheen’s father is planning to stage an intervention to get him into rehab while members of his extended family in Tipperary have said the troubled star is welcomed there any time.

Veteran actor Martin Sheen is keen to get his son – who was last week caught in a destroyed hotel room at the New York Plaza with a prostitute after an alcohol and cocaine-fuelled party – away from the "hangers on" who surround him in order for him to start dealing with his problems.

Martin – who is a former alcoholic himself – told the New York Post newspaper: “You have to separate him from that environment, from the people that he's around.”

Martin is reportedly thinking of trying to convince the actor to go to Ireland, where he studied for a university degree course four years ago - and Charlie’s cousin, Teresa Phelan, has said he would be welcome to stay with her in the north Tipperary village of Kilbarron.

Teresa said: "It's a much quieter life down here and he could walk around without being bothered by anybody. He needs to look after his health and avoid the limelight. Living here for a while would be a good thing for him to do."

Martin last staged an intervention in 1990, getting his son to rehab to deal with his drug and alcohol dependence.

Meanwhile, a friend of Charlie, who claims to have known the ‘Two And A Half Men’ star – the highest paid actor on US TV - for 20 years, said he thinks the actor is in serious trouble.

The source told gossip website RadarOnline.com: ‘Charlie Sheen is going to die this week.’

This comes as the website reports another friend claiming that since hotel security were called to his New York suite last week – where he had become enraged after he couldn’t find his $170,000 Patek Philippe 5970 watch or his wallet to pay porn star Christina Walsh her escort fee – he has returned to Los Angeles and is “out of control”.

The source said: “It’s been a non-stop party of drugs and hookers since Charlie got home. His handlers have no idea how to get him to stop. He is completely out of control. No one can get through to him.”

Charlie’s manager, Mark Burg, has dismissed the allegations, saying he visited his client over the weekend, and he was happy, alone and heading back to the set of ‘Two And A Half Men’ this week.

Mark told USA Today newspaper: “I went over to Charlie's house earlier today because I was worried after reading websites.

“Complete bulls**t fabricated lies!!! Charlie was alone. He looked at me like I was nuts for coming into his house. ‘Dude, you could have knocked’ he said.

“Charlie is fine and will be at work on Tuesday.. Happy Halloween.”
