No Bond ambition for Butler

Gerard Butler doesn’t want to play James Bond.

The ‘P.S. I Love You’ actor insists he would hate to take on the role of the iconic British spy because it would be very difficult to get further work afterwards.

He explained to ShortList magazine: "I enjoy doing an array of films. If I was to play Bond, that would quickly stop. How likely would I be accepted doing those roles after having played Bond?

“People outside of movies think it would be amazing to play 007, but as an actor you think, ‘Well I don’t know because from then on…’

"You do a lot of movies as Bond and you'd become even more synonymous with the role. I think Daniel Craig is a great Bond and good for him, but I would much rather create a role from nothing."

Although he doesn’t want to take over from Daniel Craig, Butler admits he was left disappointed when his fleeting appearance in Bond movie ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ was vastly reduced because of his thick Scottish accent.

He said: “I had one line in it and they took it off me. It was, ‘Torpedoes are bearing 11 knots’ or something. The director couldn’t understand what I was saying so they gave it to a really effeminate chap. He was a good bloke, but he delivered the line like it was a piece of gossip. I was really upset.”
