New charter air services over the summer months between Boston and Shannon, and New York (JFK) to Cork and Shannon, have been welcomed by Tourism Ireland.

The operation will be run by Hammond Tours, a full-service US tour operator based in Albany, NY, which has partnered with Ryan International Airlines.

New York to Shannon flights will operate every Thursday and Saturday between June 24 and September 11.

Return flights will operate on Mondays and Saturdays.

The first non-stop US service to Cork will begin on June 23 and continue until September 8.

It departs New York on Wednesdays and returns on Thursdays.

Fares will initially range between $214.50 (€180.16) and $299.50 (€251.55) one-way, based on round trip purchase, and will vary depending on the departure date.

The Boston to Shannon non-stop service will be operated on Fridays and Sundays - returns as well as departures - from June 25 until September 12.

Fares will range from $249.50 (€209.54 ) and $299.50 (€251.53) one way, based on a round trip purchase.

Tourism Ireland's Executive Vice President North America Jim McGuigan said: "The additional capacity during the peak season will play an important role as we strive to bring visitor numbers back to those achieved in 2000 - a record-breaking year for US visitor numbers to Ireland.

"We are witnessing a sharp upturn in the level of inquiries and bookings from the US market for tourism travel to Ireland this year. The extra lift provided by this new service is both timely and welcome."
