The warm weather attracted a large crowd to the Mardyke for the 52nd running of the BUPA Ireland Cork City Sports on Saturday.

A colourful opening ceremony saw children waving the flags of the 30-plus countries represented at the Cork venue.

The children were led by a traditional pipe band and there was an official opening speech from the Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor John Kelleher.

The first race saw plenty local interest with two Cork athletes running: Derval O’Rourke and Jessica Zebo. Derval O’Rourke came in second in the 100-metre hurdles behind winner Danielle Carruthers of the USA.
