Man with address in Cork hostel confesses to manslaughter
A Cork man accused of unlawfully killing a Polish man in his thirties confessed to the manslaughter today.
Connie Horgan, 28, who was living at St Vincent’s Hostel, Anglesea Terrace, Cork, appeared before Cork Circuit Criminal Court yesterday where he was arraigned on the single count on the indictment against him.
The charge was one of manslaughter, namely that on April 17 last at Lower Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork, he unlawfully killed Ariel Cegielka.
Horgan replied guilty to the charge.
Defence senior counsel, Mel Christle, said: “I wonder could it be put back in order that a probation report be prepared on Mr Horgan.”
In relation to the probation report application, Judge Con Murphy noted that the defendant was in custody. Mr Christle said the defence was still seeking a probation report on the defendant.
Judge Murphy ordered the preparation of such a report on Horgan and remanded him in custody until February. The background details of the case will be outlined on that occasion and Horgan will be sentenced.
