Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s film Swept Away will hit US cinemas after all – now that a man has failed in a court bid to block its release.
The remake of a 1974 Italian film will be released this Friday after a Los Angeles judge refused Vincent D’Onofrio's request for an injunction.
But in a further twist, various reports have confused the man, who describes himself as an actor, singer and producer, with the film star of the same name.
The more well-known D’Onofrio, who starred with Jennifer Lopez in The Cell, has clarified that he is not part of any lawsuit involving Madonna or Swept Away.
The controversy began when the other D’Onofrio filed a lawsuit against the couple and producers Sony, saying he had the idea to make the film with Madonna in the lead.
D’Onofrio, who wanted a producer’s credit on the film, now intends to pursue the matter further.
Swept Away stars Madonna as a wealthy American woman stranded on a Greek island with an Italian fisherman, played by Adriano Giannini.
The film, directed by Ritchie, has already received a critical panning, while test audiences were also unimpressed. It is due for a UK release in March 2003.
