Gardaí have named two of the five people killed in road accidents this weekend.
Wilford Patterson, who was in his 60s, died after he was struck by a car while walking at Racend, Coolboy, Kilmacrennan, Co Donegal, shortly after 11.30am yesterday.
Mr Patterson is from Coolboy, Milford, Co Donegal.
A post mortem is due to be carried out on his body in Letterkenny Hospital tomorrow morning.
Elsewhere, 40 year old Joseph Wisely from Rosenallis in Co Laois was killed when his motorbike collided with a car at Ballyfin outside Mountrath.
The accident happened at 8pm last night.
Mr Wisely was removed to hospital but died shortly afterwards.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man has appeared before a special sitting of Longford District Court in connection with a fatal accident in the town after midnight last night.
A 19-year-old backseat passenger was killed when the car he was travelling in lost control and hit a pole.
There were six other people in the car at the time – two of whom were seriously injured and were taken to Mullingar Hospital for treatment.
Elsewhere, another man is also in a serious condition in hospital in Galway following a two-car crash at Inverin on Saturday night.
The other two victims of the weekend carnage were a motorcyclist from County Waterford, and a Lithuanian woman who was killed in County Louth.
