East Tycoon got Jonjo O’Neill’s Festival week off to a flying start at Stratford and may yet form part of the trainer’s Cheltenham raiding party.

The Bigstone gelding was confidently ridden by Liam Cooper in the Series Hurdle, and though he had a scare when he made a mistake three-out, he quickly recovered to ease into the lead and then win with a winning margin of one and a quarter lengths.

O’Neill said: “East Tycoon did it well, I thought he had had it three-out, but Liam soon had him back on the bridle and I think the blinkers for the first time helped him concentrate.”
