People are being urged not to buy alcohol for those who are underage this St Patrick's Day.

Traditionally an increased number of young people try to get their hands on alcohol illegally during St Patrick's Day festivities.

Publicans and off licences are also being warned to ensure those who buy alcohol are over 18 years of age.

Spokesperson of the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland Ray Gordon says buying alcohol for underage people is a growing problem.

Mr Gordon says although people think they may be doing someone a favour by buying alcohol for someone who is underage, all they are doing is breaking the law.
