Stockport player-manager Carlton Palmer has accused striker Andy Thomson of using the club to get a better deal out of QPR.
The out-of-contract Rangers man held talks with Palmer over a transfer to County but last week signed a new two-year contract at Loftus Road.
And Palmer will not now go back into the transfer market, preferring instead to rely on his existing forward line of Luke Beckett and Aaron Wilbraham.
He said: ‘‘I honestly thought Thomson wanted to join us but it looks as though he just used us to up the ante at QPR. He told us he wanted to move up north.
‘‘We offered him a two-year contract compared to a one-year deal at Loftus Road. In the end, though, he got an extra year down there and decided to stay in London.
‘‘The chairman, who has been magnificent, has told me that money is available to bring someone else in but I’ll be going with the strikers we’ve got unless someone comes on the market who would really strengthen the squad,’’ Palmer told the official club website.
