Transport Minister Seamus Brennan is due to officially open the €160m Kildare by-pass later today.

The new section of the M7 motorway is expected to remove up to 20,000 vehicles from the streets of Kildare every day and reduce journey times by around 20 minutes.

Kildare town has long been a frustrating bottle-neck for motorists heading south from Dublin.

The new bypass means these motorists can now enjoy a continuous motorway all the way to Monasterevin.
