Andreas Jakobsson has left Southampton to rejoin Helsingborg on a contract for two and a half years.

The 32-year-old only joined the Saints last August, but relegation from the Barclays Premiership prompted the club to let Jakobsson go.

The former Sweden international is delighted to be returning to his homeland and the club he played for between 1995 and 2000.

“I had some other alternatives but in this case I listened to my heart,” Jakobsson told www.hif.se. “Quite simply it was an easy choice.”

Jakobsson, who has also played for Hansa Rostock and Brondby, scored twice in 29 appearances for Southampton.
