Taoiseach Brian Cowen said today that it is the intention of the Chair of the Moriarty Tribunal to complete the inquiry by the end of the year.
But Mr Cowen however said it was too early to put a final cost on the Tribunal.
The Dáil has heard that the inquiry's legal team has been paid more than that of the recently concluded Saville Inquiry into Bloody Sunday in the North.
But Mr Cowen said fees paid to lawyers at Moriarty have been cut in the past two years.
