The world’s first electric guitar will be displayed at an exhibition in Dublin today.
The Frying Pan, designed in 1931, has never before been seen outside the US and must remain in its case at the National Museum at Collins Barracks.
Cork rocker Rory Gallagher’s 1961 Fender Stratocaster will also be exhibited at RockChic – The Life and Times of the Electric Guitar 1931-2006.
“This is the only guitar that Rory ever played on stage, and is such an icon that Fender produce a model that is a distressed reproduction of this particular guitar,” a spokesman said.
2FM DJ Dave Fanning will officially open the exhibition before broadcasting his Drivetime with Dave show from the event.
Museum director Dr Patrick Wallace will show Arts Minister John O’Donoghue around the exhibition before it opens to the public tomorrow.
The event was conceived and curated by TV producer and music fan Ian Spero.
