Labour has confirmed that it has written to the Government Chief Whip requesting the recall of the Dail before the end of the month over the Jamie Sinnott case.

Party spokesperson Jan O'Sullivan said it is important that the Dail is seen to respond to the wave of public concern that the Supreme Court judgement has unleashed.

Deputy O'Sullivan said there is now a clear need for a preliminary consultation as to how the matter can be dealt with further.

Specific proposals could be ready for the Dail when it returns either in September or in early October, she added. Currently the Dail is due to recommence sitting on October 2.
