Friends favourite Matt Le Blanc will be paid less than half his Friends salary of a million dollars an episode for starring in his own spin-off series Joey - but he will earn a greater share of the show’s profits, according to the NBC TV network.
Joey will go on the air next year in the same time slot as Friends, which ends its 10th and final season in May.
No script has yet been written but sources say the show is based on a scenario in which Joey moves to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career, probably to be joined by a love interest and an ensemble cast.
There are no plans for guest appearances by other Friends stars, according to executive producer Kevin Bright.
“It would be a mistake to start looking in that direction,” he told reporters. “This show needs to stand on its own.”
