This afternoon’s meeting at Newcastle is subject to the course passing a second inspection at 9am.

Officials held an initial check at 7am, after the track was hit with a significant amount of snow on Thursday.

While conditions are yet to improve sufficiently for clerk of the course James Armstrong to give the fixture the go-ahead, he feels things are moving in the right direction.

Armstrong confirmed: “We’re going to have another look at 9 o’clock. Things have improved here but they do need to improve further. However, it is now plus four degrees and raining quite hard. That's obviously helping with the thaw.

“Should we race we will definitely be heavy, but we’ll look again a little later to keep everyone in the picture.”
