Last round of Irish peacekeepers to go to the Lebanon

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will today review the final battalion of Irish troops to take up peacekeeping duties in Lebanon.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will today review the final battalion of Irish troops to take up peacekeeping duties in Lebanon.

The review takes place at Templemore, County Tipperary.

Almost 600 soldiers are being sent for our last round of duty in southern Lebanon.

Irish peacekeepers have been in the area since 1978, with close to 26,000 individual tours of duty.
