Improving four-year-old Numero Due is in grand form ahead of his ultimate test in Saturday’s totesport Cesarewitch at Newmarket.
George Moore’s charge has been the subject of recent support for the upcoming marathon and will arrive at Headquarters seeking a hat-trick after enjoying cosy successes at Chester and Warwick on his last two starts.
Preparations have reportedly gone smoothly and Moore is now just hoping the rains continue to fall in the run-up to the weekend.
“He’s fine and everything’s gone to plan since his last run,” the Leyburn-based handler explained.
“We’ve had the race in mind for him for a while, we thought it would suit him as we know he’d really stay.
“Staying is his forte and the further he goes the better he goes, so we’re quite happy and he’ll be fine on the ground – the more rain the better.
“He’s won over two miles a couple of times before so he gets that trip and he won one at Thirsk in a common canter.
“From then on we thought he’d be an ideal horse for the race really,” he explained.
“It’s always a competitive race but he goes there with a chance, although there’s plenty of others who do the same.”
