Town end Rovers' unbeaten run

Eric Lavine was Longford's super sub tonight with a winner from his first touch of the ball.

Lavine, on the pitch just a minute, dived to head home a Dessie Baker cross with six minutes to go to give Town a rousing win and end Rovers' seven-match unbeaten run.

It had all fallen apart for Rovers just minutes earlier when Shane Robinson was shown a straight red card for an off the ball tussle with Darragh Sheridan.

Trevor Molloy shot into the side netting for Rovers before Town took command of the first half, wasting two gilt-edged chances.

John Martin should have done better than volley over from Alan Kirby’s cross.

Kirby then brought a brilliant diving save from Noel Mooney with a stinging shot from 16 yards.
