Ladalko will bypass the Cheltenham Festival and head straight to the Gala Casinos Daily Record Scottish Grand National following his fourth place in the Racing Post Chase at Sandown.

Trainer Paul Nicholls is keen to keep the seven-year-old fresh for the Ayr marathon on April 22 after he went down by just under four lengths, with his stablemate My Will just ahead in third.

“I was very pleased with both of them and I think we will leave Ladalko now and go straight to the Scottish National,” Nicholls told Teletext.

“He goes well fresh and has had a few races. Cheltenham may come too soon so the obvious thing is to go straight to Ayr.

“He keeps improving – looking at where the horses finished behind him, I think he ran a career best yesterday.”

My Will was staying on well to finish in the frame having taken the runner-up spot behind Our Vic in the Ascot totesport Chase the previous weekend.

“My Will thrives on racing, has come out of the race well and is in several races at Cheltenham, but the ground will dicate which race he runs in,” Nicholls added.
