World number two Jim Furyk is doubtful for this week’s WGC Bridgestone Invitational tournament at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
Furyk, who won last weekend’s Canadian Open to overtake Phil Mickelson in the world rankings, today revealed he was having problems with his back.
“I have some sort of injury to my upper back/rib area and it was just tight hitting balls yesterday,” Furyk said.
“I made a swing and it really just started tightening up. So I quit hitting balls as quick as I could and tried to get up to the physiotherapy trailers to try and get some treatment.”
Furyk said his condition had worsened since, however.
“On Tuesday evening it was very tight and relatively painful,” the former US Open champion added.
“I’m very stiff right now, don’t have a lot of movement in my upper back and then into my neck because of the connection.
“I don’t know whether or not I’ll be able to play but I’ll make that decision probably tonight and see how things are going.”
