Two men are due to appear before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin today on charges of membership of an illegal organisation.

The pair were arrested after a major Garda operation against dissident republican groups over the weekend, focusing on areas in Kildare, Carlow and Laois.

The two men, 30 and 42-years-old, were arrested in part of the operation that included searching for a suspected paramilitary training camp that is believed to belong to the so-called Real IRA.

The Garda operation began after the discovery of a set of photographs of the supposed training ground.

It is believed that a large arms cache has been recovered from three separate Co Kildare locations, which included mortar bombs and tubes, assault weapons, ammunition and combat style clothing.

The two men were questioned under section 30 of the Offences against the State act and after being held overnight at Naas and Newbridge Garda stations, they have now been charged with membership of a paramilitary organisation.
