Cork secretary Frank Murphy will criticise the recently published Hurling Development Committee proposals at the upcoming county convention and cite the scrapping of junior and intermediate championships as a step backwards.

Murphy writes: "Are our inter-county competitions to become so elitist that we cater only for the top players and deprive the average player of wearing his county jersey?”

He added: "Whereas it is proposed to eliminate intermediate, junior and minor games there is a substantial increase in the proposed All-Ireland SHC schedule which will impact on club championship schedules."
