Farmers protesting about falling incomes will today set out by tractor from around the country on a week-long cavalcade that will eventually finish in Dublin.

Tractors will begin moving this morning from Bantry, Tralee, Castlebar and Ballina for the rally.

They will then be joined throughout the week by other protestors from centres nationwide.

It is expected that by Friday, 300 tractors will protest outside Government buildings.

The demonstration is being organised by the Irish Farmers Association.

IFA President John Dillon insists the Government has made the situation worse through cuts in farming spending.

Mr Dillon says that CSO figures have confirmed that farmers are 9% down on incomes across the board.
