Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn is optimistic new players will be joining his Barclays Premiership newcomers soon.
Roy Keane’s led the Black Cats back to the top flight at the first attempt last season, with 16 wins from their last 20 games making sure of the Coca-Cola Championship title.
The manager has acknowledged the need to strengthen, and speculation is rife on Wearside who will be arriving this summer.
And fellow Irishman Quinn said today: “We are trying to strengthen and we’re working hard.
“There are a lot of people jostling for position at the moment and clubs are flexing their muscles.”
“But it should all fall into place pretty soon.
“And Roy is the person who will break the news of who we are attempting to sign.”
Quinn, who headed a consortium which took control at the Stadium of Light last summer, is hopeful his team can finally make an impact in the top flight.
Sunderland’s last two campaigns ended in dismal bottom-placed finishes.
In 2003 they dropped with just 19 points – a record low which they beat last year in accumulating just 15.
But the 40-year-old added on Sky Sports News: “Hopefully this time we will bring something strong to the league.”
