A couple were arrested after being caught having sex on the Queen’s lawn at Windsor Castle, it was disclosed today.

Bemused tourists, who expected to enjoy a quintessential English afternoon, instead witnessed the pair strip on a grass bank outside the castle – while her majesty was said to be in residence.

And witnesses said the couple did not appear to care who was watching.

An employee at the Harte and Garter Hotel, which looks onto the castle, said guests went out to observe the scene and could not believe their eyes.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said: “I think it was going on for about ten or 15 minutes, which is quite a long time, considering the location.

“People were shouting things like ’what are you doing?’ but they really didn’t seem to care at all. It was very funny.”

And she said Irish Guard sentries, whose barracks overlook the lawn, opened their windows to observe the scene and cheer.

“I think mainly people were just stunned that they were doing it in broad daylight and right there, on the lawn.”

A spokesman from Thames Valley Police said: “We can confirm that two people were arrested for outraging public decency and were subsequently cautioned for the said offence.”

Mr Robinson said: “The officers told them to stop and the sight of the uniforms seemed to snap them out of it.

“They were unsteady on their feet and the guy pulled his trousers up and helped the girl put hers back on.

“The Japanese tourists were comparing their videos.”
