Shelbourne midfielder Wes Hoolahan has been voted eircom/Soccer Writers Association Player of the Month for July.

The former Irish Under-21 international topped the poll ahead of team-mate Alan Moore and Cork City's Danny Murphy after starring in all three of Shels' Champions League games last month: the home and away games with KR Reyjkavik and in Croatia against Hajduk Split.

Also in his favour was an FAI Cup goal in the 4-1 win over Finn Harps. Hoolahan, aged 22, has carried that form into August and was a key member of the side which defeated Hajduk at Tolka Park last week to set up a final qualifying round tie with Spain’s Deportivo La Coruna.
