A man who tried to enter the annual shamrock reception at the White House yesterday has been charged with unlawful entry and threatening behaviour.

A man who tried to enter the annual shamrock reception at the White House yesterday has been charged with unlawful entry and threatening behaviour.

66-year-old Catalino Lucas Diaz was carrying a package, which was later found to contain a book and a tape recorder.

The incident sparked a security lock-down at the White House, and Bertie Ahern and George W Bush were moved to an adjoining building.

The elderly man - who's believed to be from Florida - is being detained by police.
