Tickets sell out for Roses' reunion gigs
The Stone Roses' reunion shows sold out in just 14 minutes today.
The band shifted 150,000 tickets for their two dates at Manchester's Heaton Park on June 29 and 30 at a break-neck pace and websites and phone booking lines struggled to cope with the demand.
After the two open air gigs sold out, promoters announced a third night at the same venue on July 1 and that sold out in less than hour.
In total, the 'Fool's Gold' hitmakers sold an incredible 220,000 tickets in 68 minutes making them the fastest-selling rock shows in UK history.
Murray Chalmers PR - the company promoting The Stone Roses reunion - tweeted: "Now @thestoneroses have sold out new 3rd date at Heaton Park. 222,000 tickets sold in 68 mins - the fastest selling rock gigs in UK history! (sic)"
The trio of shows will be the first time the original line-up - frontman Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield and drummer Alan 'Reni' Wren - will have performed together for 17 years.
After hearing the news that the gigs had sold out, Ian said: "We plan on spending the rest of the day jumping up and down with our hands in the air."
Earlier this week, the 'I am the Resurrection' singer insisted the group hadn't reformed for money but to "take over the world".
Ian - who hadn't spoken to John for over a decade before managing to repair their relationship after they at the funeral of Mani's mother earlier this year - said: "The money has always been on the table you know, we could have took that money any time we wanted, every year, two or three times a year we've had offers all the way down the line.
"The thing is we've not seen each other, so how can you bring back a band with the spirit to warm people up and lift people up if you've not even spoken to each other?"
