Is Irish Water dead?

The results of the general election mean that Irish water is dead!

That is according to the Right to Water coordinator Brendan Ogle who has said 99 TDs in the Dáil no longer support water charges.

Yesterday Taoiseach Enda Kenny said that some contribution to pay for water is a fundamental issue for Fine Gael, during negotiations on forming a new government.

Meanwhile Fianna Fáil has said the abolition of water charges and Irish Water is a key issue for it, even if it supports a minority Fine Gael government.

Mr Ogle has said he is not paying any Irish water bills.

"TDs who oppose water charges - now that Fianna Fáil have listened to people on the doorsteps and come around to our way of thinking - is 99 TDs.

"The parties who support water charges are Fine Gael and the Labour party, and we see that they have a very small minority now.

"So, water charges I have no doubt are going to be abolished, we've had the biggest social movement in the history of the state."
