Infrastructure at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin is inadequate and below international standards, according to a report commissioned by the hospital.

Infrastructure at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin is inadequate and below international standards, according to a report commissioned by the hospital.

The Pollock Report said facilities in some of the hospital's wards are seriously outdated and should be replaced because it would be impossible to upgrade them to 21st-century standards.

The report points to the lack of bed space, the poor configuration of nurses' stations, insufficient toilet facilities and long, narrow corridors.

It also said the Crumlin hospital's accident and emergency department is half the size it should be, the out-patient department is just one-third the size it should be and facilities which should be standard in acute paediatric hospitals are absent due to space constraints.
