Palmer to be buried at Swiss home

Singer Robert Palmer will be buried at his Swiss home, his manager said today.

Singer Robert Palmer will be buried at his Swiss home, his manager said today.

Palmer, who rose to international fame with hits including Addicted to Love and Simply Irresistible, died at a Paris hotel yesterday after suffering a suspected heart attack.

The 54-year-old star’s body has been released by the French authorities and will now be returned to his home town of Lugano in Switzerland.

A post-mortem examination was conducted yesterday, but the cause of death has not yet been revealed, said Palmer’s manager, Nick Cater.

He said: “The body has been released and the French police are satisfied.

“The cause of death is not on the certificate, but we will be told early next week.

“We have no reason to believe he died from anything other than a massive heart attack.”

Mr Cater said the singer’s body would be buried in Lugano, rather than at his birthplace of Batley in Yorkshire.

Palmer’s parents, Les and Ann, and his daughter Jane, 22, have flown out to Switzerland to begin the funeral arrangements.

“Robert lived in Switzerland for the last 15 years, and that is where he wanted to be,” said Mr Cater.

“He said it was the first home he ever had.”

Palmer, who was known for his immaculate appearance and groundbreaking videos, had been in Paris for a two-day break with his partner, Mary Ambrose.

The couple had been out for a meal in the city before he died in the early hours in their room at the four-star Warwick Hotel just off the Champs Elysees.

The cause of the heart attack however remains to be established.

Mr Cater said: “Robert had no history of heart problems. Only two weeks ago he had a medical check up which gave him a clean bill of health.”
