Kieren Fallon continued in superb form at Haydock today just 24-hours after landing his first six-timer with three victories each at Pontefract and Yarmouth.
Fallon had to work hard to get 8-11 chance Seeking Answers home in the Haydock Park Annual Badgeholders Club Maiden Auction but admitted he enjoyed a battling finish as he looked back on the previous day.
His favourite memory of the trio at Pontefract was the victory of High Action, who just got up by a head to deny the veteran Montecristo.
“I like a tough finish and Robert Winston is very hard to beat in a finish,” he said.
“It was ding-dong to the line and he had me for one stride, then I got back - I liked that.”
Fallon admitted he fancied himself to do well on the day.
“I got good rides and the horses are in form,” he added.
“I knew I had a good book of rides. I was hoping the two two-year-olds (Fort Dignity and Auditorium) would win because they are your foundation aren’t they? They look to be two two-year-olds that have futures.
“The rest filled in around.
“And the last winner I rode, Candelabra at Yarmouth, hadn’t had the best of runs at Newbury and you always like to make amends for your mistakes.”
The Irishman took his tally to 152 winners at Haydock and looks odds-on to reach the 200-winner mark yet again but admitted to being disappointed his well chronicled injury at Royal Ascot in 2000 forced him out of several record-breaking opportunities.
“I had a couple of targets before my fall – consecutive championships and to break the 200 for the fourth time in a row – only Gordon Richards and Fred Archer had done that. The fall shattered a lot of my chances for records,” he revealed.
