Blades bid for Carney

Sydney FC’s Australia international David Carney has been granted permission to travel to England to begin transfer talks with Sheffield United.

Sydney FC’s Australia international David Carney has been granted permission to travel to England to begin transfer talks with Sheffield United.

The A-League club’s chief executive officer George Perry has confirmed the Blades, who were relegated from the Barclays Premier League last season, have now tabled an offer for the 23-year-old midfielder.

Carney, who produced a string of impressive display’s during Australia’s maiden AFC Asian Cup campaign last month, had earlier revealed his frustration after Sydney executives denied him permission to fly to England to discuss terms with United at the last minute.

“We always said we wouldn’t stand in David’s way of going overseas if we received a genuine offer that was in everyone’s best interests,” Perry told Sydney’s website www.sydneyfc.com.
