Maybury gets Ireland nod

Hearts defender Alan Maybury has been named in the Republic of Ireland side to face the Czech Republic at Lansdowne Road tonight.

Maybury comes into the side at right-back to win his third cap – his first since 1999 – as a replacement for Stephen Carr, who has returned to his club Tottenham with a knee complaint.

Maybury’s inclusion means that it is a new-look defensive line-up alongside Gary Doherty, captain Kenny Cunningham and Ian Harte with Shay Given once again starting in goal.

In midfield, manager Brian Kerr has opted to play his three wingers, Damien Duff, Kevin Kilbane and Andy Reid in the same side alongside Matt Holland.

Yesterday, Kerr insisted all three could play together because of their adaptability and it is expected Kilbane will start in the centre of midfield - his position for his club Everton at present - with Nottingham Forest star Reid starting on the right wing.

Up front, Robbie Keane is partnered by Clinton Morrison.
