Army bomb disposal experts last night defused a pipe bomb type device discovered by a child at a sports ground.

Army bomb disposal experts last night defused a pipe bomb type device discovered by a child at a sports ground.

The device was found in Michael Davitt’s Gaelic Athletic Club in Swatragh, Co Derry, shortly before 5pm.

Police said a number of items were removed for examination.

Meanwhile in Belfast, component parts of what appeared to be bomb-making equipment, a quantity of ammunition and combat-style clothing were removed by the security forces in Haliday’s Road after they were summoned to the area to examine a suspicious object.
