A Nigerian woman accused of human trafficking and brothel keeping was served with a book of evidence today and sent forward for trial.
Charity Ajayioba (aged 35), who is of no fixed abode, had been earlier charged at Dublin District Court under Section 11 of the Criminal Law Sexual Offences Act for organising, directing and running four brothels, at Rathbraughan Park, Temple Street and Connolly Street, in Sligo and at Auburn Court, in Longford, on March 22, 2007.
Another charge was also brought under Section Two of the Illegal Immigrants Trafficking Act 2000 and alleges that Ms Ajayioba “organised for gain” the entry of a woman into the State, at Dublin Airport, on March 22, 2007.
She appeared again today at Dublin District Court where a book of evidence was served on her.
The DPP had consented to her being returned for trial on indictment.
Judge Denis McLoughlin then made an order sending her forward for trial at the present term of the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Bail was refused.
Earlier, the court had heard that in reply to the trafficking allegation, the defendant had said that the person named in the charge “was brought to this country as a minder”.
In replies to the other charges the defendant had claimed that she too had been trafficked to Ireland to work as a prostitute to pay off a €100,000 debt.
