The Baltimore Ravens and Ray Lewis capped a magnificent journey to NFL glory by hammering the New York Giants 34-7 to capture Super Bowl XXXV.
Lewis and the defence destroyed the Giants hopes', intercepting New York quarterback Kerry Collins four times and holding Giants' running backs to 63 yards rushing.
The seven points did not come against the Baltimore defence, but against their special teams.
"There is nothing like this right now," Lewis said at midfield after being named the game's top player.
"It's just exicting how we came out and played as a team. This defence has been doing it all year and never got the credit. They can't take it away. We're the best ever.
"When we came out we knew what we had to do, showing them we are the best of all time."
Lewis, facing double-murder charges after last season's Super Bowl game in Atlanta after two people were killed at a post-match party, ultimately plea bargained his charges down to obstruction of justice.
After returning to the Ravens before the start of the campaign, he helped them turn in the most dominating performance in NFL history, allowing only 165 points - the smallest number since the league went to a 16-game schedule.
Lewis, who was named the league's defensive player of the year for the season, admitted he had been on a emotional and spiritual journey since spending time behind bars.
"As the man upstairs would tell you, 'I would never take you through hell without taking you to triumph'," he added.
