Indonesian troops shot and killed six suspected rebels in Aceh province as the military pressed ahead with its offensive despite pleas for a cease-fire during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
The men were killed in separate incidents across the province, said Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Yani Basuki. One AK-47 riffle was confiscated from the dead men, he said.
In May, Jakarta abandoned a five-month truce with the rebels, who have been fighting since 1976 for a separate state in the province on the northern tip of Sumatra island.
Since then, more than 900 people identified by the military as rebels have been killed.
Rebels say most of those killed were ordinary villagers.
