British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is due in the North today to try to finalise a deal on the devolution of policing and justice powers.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is due in the North today to try to finalise a deal on the devolution of policing and justice powers.

The DUP is reluctant to agree a date for the transfer because it says no adequate financial arrangement has been put in place.

Sinn Féin claims the delay is as a result of internal divisions within the DUP.

The situation has led to a deterioration in relations between First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness in recent weeks.

Mr Brown has pledged that the funding necessary to transfer policing and justice to Stormont will be forthcoming.
