Stars team up with magazine to fight AIDS
Bono, Scarlett Johansson, and Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen have teamed up with Elle Magazine in the fight against AIDS in Africa.
Elle is featuring (RED), the international brand funding medicine for AIDS victims, in 30 magazines globally.
The magazines contain photographs of Bundchen wearing (RED) products from Emporio Armani, Gap and Converse and holding a (RED) iPod Nano.
Bundchen, who has been a supporter of (RED) since it was founded in 2006, said: “I grew up in a country strongly affected by poverty. The face of suffering isn’t an abstract thing for me and I’ve always said to myself that, if I could do something to help, I would.”
The magazine's also contain an exclusive interview with actress Johansson about her trip to (RED) projects in Rwanda last year and a letter from U2 lead-singer and (RED) co-founder Bono about the problem of AIDS in Africa.
The first issue will appear in Elle France on January 17, and in the February and March issues of 30 other international editions, reaching 20 million readers worldwide.
Together with partner brands, (RED) has raised more than $120m (€91m) to help tackle AIDS in Africa over the past two years.
The brand was created in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver, an American philanthropist.
It is licensed to partner retailers which design and sell specific (RED) products and contribute up to 50% of the profits to African AIDS programmes.
Current partners offering (RED) products include Apple, Gap, Converse and Emporio Armani.
